National Professional Soccer League

The National Professional Soccer League launched in 1967 without FIFA's sanction but with a CBS television contract, and one referee later admitted stopping play so the network could fit in commercials. Oakland beat Baltimore in a two-game final, and the league merged with the United Soccer Association to form the NASL for 1968.
