    The match was played at the Shea Stadium (home of the Mets baseball team) kicking off at 20:30 local time – 02:30 on 23.06.76 in Italy. There were 19,555 paying spectators (two thirds of whom Argentines). The Argentinian consul and deputy mayor of New York attended the game. Di Bartolomei, who had spent the 1975/76 season on loan at Lanerossi Vicenza, was on the Roma bench. Boca Juniors were coached by ex-Roma manager Lorenzo.
